Rescued by Air, United by Compassion

A lifesaving mission was completed when volunteer pilots Stephen Nur and David Lechter flew to Georgetown, South Carolina, transporting 24 dogs and 3 cats toward a future of safety, care, and love. Their dedication and generosity made it possible for these animals to leave uncertainty behind and begin new chapters filled with hope.

Among the animals aboard this flight were two young pups, Linus and Charlie Brown. They were discovered by a volunteer delivering dog houses in an underserved area of the Myrtle Beach region. When they were found, both puppies were emaciated, critically weak, and chained without access to food or water. Thanks to timely intervention and compassionate rescue efforts, they were removed from those conditions and given the chance to recover and thrive.

Two additional puppies on this mission carried compelling stories. Valentina had two painful pellets removed during her spay surgery, an injury discovered only when she received medical care. In many rural areas of South Carolina, free-roaming dogs are often targeted due to overpopulation and nuisance behaviors. Valentina was fortunate to escape, receive treatment, and move forward toward a life defined by kindness rather than harm.

Gemma was surrendered as part of a litter when her parents' owner was unable to provide proper care. She was born with a skull birth defect that requires continued medical follow-up. Her adoptive family was chosen with full awareness of her needs and was committed to supporting her ongoing care. Gemma’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible breeding practices and the risks associated with backyard breeding for profit without standards.

These life changing missions were made possible through the support and collaboration of dedicated partners including SE Coast SC Rescue Collaboration, Cats Meow, Dillon County Animal Shelter, Friends of Carolina Animals, Grand Strand Humane Society, Horry County Animal Care Center, Williamsburg County Animal Care and Control, Eleventh Hour Rescue, Freedom First Rescue, Happy Homes Animal Rescue, Humble Hounds, Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter, and Ulster County Canines.

It truly took a village to make missions like this one a success, and every supporter played a role in helping these animals reach safety and a second chance at life.
