We’ve got a LOT to be thankful for this November. Over the past month, we have:
· Rescued 211 homeless dogs and cats
· Flew 7 endangered Red Wolves to safety
· Saved our 2,000th animal this year!
That’s more animals than we’ve ever saved in one year, breezing past our goal of 1,500 lives saved this year. How did we cross this major milestone? We certainly didn’t do it alone. The #1 reason we are able to save so many lives is YOU, and your unwavering support. For that reason, we’re most thankful for our generous community. You are the wind beneath our wings...literally! In this month’s newsletter, we’d like to introduce you to Arcus and bring you on a special mission to save endangered Red Wolves.
Help Us Bring 200 At-risk Animals: "Home For The Holidays!"
As we enter the season of warmth, family, and festivities, hundreds of at-risk animals are still waiting for their second chance. That's why Pilots To The Rescue is launching our “Home for the Holidays” Matching Campaign! We need your help to unlock a lifesaving $25,000 match that will enable us to fly 200 animals to safety. Your gift of any size will go twice as far in providing freedom flights to homeless animals, helping them find warm, loving, fur-ever homes.
Here are a few ways your support makes an impact!
The Power of Hope: Arcus's Miracle Recovery
When you look at sweet Arcus, it’s hard to believe his life was just hanging by a thread.
In early November, rescuers from Friends All United for Natchicoches Animals arrived at a property in Louisiana. What they discovered can only be described as an animal lover's worst nightmare. There were 8 horrifically emaciated puppies living in a zip-tied pen with no food or water nearby. One puppy - chained by his neck - had already passed away. It was a heartbreaking sight, but FAUNA acted quickly. In a matter of days, 7 of the pups were able to find new families. Only Arcus was left behind. Though we were originally scheduled to rescue Arcus and 16 other animals by plane, the government shutdown made flying impossible. Because you helped us purchase a rescue van earlier this year, we were able to pivot to a ground rescue mission and make sure our precious cargo reached our shelter partner, Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, which matched Arcus with a loving foster family. As you can see, Arcus is now nearly unrecognizable with his belly full of treats and days full of squirrel watching and sunshine. He knows how lucky he is, and he has YOU to thank!
Saving a Species: 7 Endangered Red Wolves
At Pilots To The Rescue, our mission has always been to give at-risk dogs and cats a second chance, but some calls for help carry a heavier weight. This month, we opened our wings even wider to rescue 7 critically endangered Red Wolves, a species whose future hangs in the balance. Red Wolves are the world’s most critically endangered canid. It’s estimated that just 300 are left on the planet, and only 10-20 remain in the wild. That’s why Pilots To The Rescue was deeply honored to lend a paw to not just one, but two Red Wolf conservation efforts in November. First, we flew 3-year-old Ginger from the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, New York, down the East Coast to the North Carolina Zoo. Just a days later, our work continued as we flew 2 more Red Wolves to North Carolina’s Museum of Life and Science, and then brought a family of 5 wolves back up to the Wolf Conservation Center. The first pair will join a carefully managed breeding program--one of the few chances their species has for recovery--while the other family of 5 will finally enjoy a larger space for their growing family. Both missions were crucial for the species’ survival.
