Four Legged Friends of the Pilots To The Rescue Team!

At Pilots To The Rescue, our love for animals is at the core of everything we do. I’m fortunate to work with a fantastic team who shares this passion. During our staff video calls, you’ll often hear a bark in the background or spot a curious cat on a desk.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Meet some of the four-legged friends of the Pilots To The Rescue family, who inspire us every day to make a difference in the lives of animals.
Michael, Top Dog
Sydney, a 90-pound black shepherd mix, joined our family eight years ago after we adopted her from North Shore Animal League. She's wonderful with our four boys, all under eight, displaying unwavering loyalty, affection and a strong protective instinct. Sydney possesses an uncanny ability to discern good from bad intentions. Though generally quiet and remarkably resilient, this constant companion can be a bit skittish and has a penchant for growling and barking at UPS trucks and startling small animals (and their owners) in our Brooklyn neighborhood.
Amy, Transport Coordinator
Meet Izzy, our sweet Golden Doodle who joined our family in July 2024. At three years old, Izzy had never been off-leash and spent most of her life crated in a small apartment. When we heard she needed a new home, we invited her to meet our other dog, Cooper. The two clicked right away—now Izzy treats Cooper like a big brother, following him around and occasionally pestering him like a true sibling.
Today, Izzy has a big backyard, two human sisters, a stay-at-home mom and more love than she could have imagined. She’s thriving off-leash, loves to fetch, snuggle, and soak up attention. We can’t imagine our lives without her and are so glad we could give her the forever home she deserves.
Nicole, Media Coordinator
Mona, Nicole’s family Basset Hound, will turn 13 this summer. Born the runt of her litter on a bunny farm in western Pennsylvania, Mona enjoys chasing bunnies in her spare time, along with long naps and her favorite treat: cheese. This absolute sweetheart loves kisses, snuggles, and all her doggy friends in the neighborhood. Mona is the pride and joy of our family, and we are excited to celebrate her 13th birthday this summer.
I’ll never forget the day we picked up Mona back in 2012—it seems like it was just yesterday. Her parents’ owners had a love for both dogs and bunnies, and where we picked her up was primarily a bunny farm. We were immediately in love. When she was still a puppy, she used to trip over her ears sometimes because I think they were growing faster than the rest of her body.
Coincidentally, Mona loves spending her time chasing bunnies. She has consistently had the sweetest and most mild disposition since she was a puppy. Her other hobbies include napping, socializing with other dogs in the neighborhood, eating cheese (her favorite food), and snuggling. Basset Hounds are known for their need for a lot of sleep—so nowadays, Mona is probably clocking 16+ hours of sleep a day. Mona is currently in great health and we cherish every day we have with her!
Jennifer, Development Director
Cheddar was never cut out for street life. Hired as the “Master Mouse Catcher” at a NYC bodega, he preferred cuddles to confrontation and was quickly fired for being too sweet to hurt a soul. When we heard his story, we agreed to foster him for two weeks—and, well, two weeks turned into forever.
Then came Oden, a dapper tuxedo cat who lost his home during the pandemic. He needed an emergency foster for just two weeks… and you can probably guess what happened next. Oden settled in like he’d always been part of the family.
And finally, there is Willow. Found on the streets of Puerto Rico with a fresh litter of puppies, she and her babies were flown to safety by an animal lover with a big heart. From the moment she landed in NYC, her tail hasn’t stopped wagging. Today, Cheddar, Oden, and Willow aren’t just rescues—they’re siblings, and the heart of our home.
